Deborah C. Karas, ANP-BC

Ms. Karas is a board certified adult advance practice nurse and gerontological nurse in a clinical practice for primary care, long term care and home care settings. She has more than 24 years of diverse and successful working experience. She is currently serving as chairman of the Content Expert Panel for gerontological nurse board certification exam with the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is owner of NP Healthcare & Associates. and she collaborates with Steven C. Fox, D.O specializing in Geriatric and Disability Medicine. She is dedicated to education of patients, families, health care professionals and caregivers for quality of life during their health care needs.

She has served as adjunct faculty member at Wm. Harper College as an educator and program coordinator of the Basic Nursing Assistant Training Program. In 2000, she was chosen as the recipient of Certificate of Recognition for outstanding performance in Clinical Education at the Finch University of Health Sciences - Chicago Medical School. She has received honors in Phi Theta Kappa – Wm. R Harper College, 1984, Alpha Delta Omega – Human Services Honor Society – 1999 and currently a member of Sigma Theta Tau International – Honor Society of Nursing.

Ms. Karas has made numerous professional presentations and workshops including but limited to the State of Illinois Police, St. Stephen Symposium – Archdiocese of Chicago, Good Shepard Hospital, Illinois Department of Labor and White House Health Care Advisory Panel. She has been involved a medical mission in Central America..

Dr. FoxDr. Steven C. Fox, D.O. is a physician licensed to practice medicine in all its branches. He has practiced medicine in the State of Illinois for the past 27 years.

A specific focus on his practice is the assessment of decisional capacity and care planning for disabled and geriatric patients.

He has conducted over five hundred assessments of decisional capacity and reported to the Probate Courts in Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane and McHenry counties. He has served as an expert witness for the Cook County State’s Attorney and theKane County State’s Attorney.

Dr. Fox has taught and lectured to the American Geriatric Society, Illinois Geriatric Society, Office of State Guardian, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Chicago Bar Association, Chicago Department on Aging, Northwestern Medical Center Geriatric Division, Chicago Police Department, Chicago Police Academy, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Loyola Law School, and DePaul Law School regarding the assessment of decisional capacity and guardianship.

He has published on the topics of the assessment of decisional capacity, guardianship, reality testing, personality disorder, nursing home care and placement.
